Packaging
Goods shall be contained or packaged in
the manner usual for such goods or
adequately packaged

Eg: Rice is to be packed in single new jute

bags of 50kgs net each, about 50.6kgs gross
each, hand-sewn at mouth with jute twice
thread suitable for rough handling and sea
transportation. The Seller shall be liable for
any damage to or loss of the Goods
attributable to improper or defective
packaging

Packaging
Three packaging problems are worth mentioning here even though they are matters
of public law and outside the direct scope of the contract
Packaging of dangerous goods is subject to
special regulations in all countries. The
exporter should ask for instructions from the
buyer if dangerous goods are in question.

Some national laws require fumigation of

all containers entering the country.

Agriculture-based, developed economies (such as

that of Australia) tend to place severe restrictions
on packaging materials. Hay, straw and rice husks
are often forbidden; wooden packaging must
often be fumigated. If in doubt, the exporter
should consult the buyer or the consulate of the
importing country

What is Bill of Lading?

A Bill of Lading (sometimes abbreviated as B/L or BoL) is a document issued by a carrier
which details a shipment of merchandise and gives title of that shipment to a specified
party. Bills of lading are one of three important documents used in international trade to
help guaranteerters receive payment and importers receive merchandise

Marine Bill of Lading

is a document required for the transportation of goods overseas. An marine bill of
lading serves as both the carrier's receipt to the shipper and as a collection
document. The document specifies the details of the goods being transported, such
as quantity, type and destination
The importance of Marine Bill of Lading
A non-negotiable marine bill of lading allows the buyer to receive the goods upon
showing identification. If the bill is deemed negotiable, then the buyer will be
required to pay the shipper for the products and meet any of the seller's other
conditions

A Marine Bill of Lading has 3 basic

Other

Shipped on board Bill of Lading:

This is B/L which certifies that the specified goods have been
received in apparent good order and condition from the named
shipper, and have been taken aboard the named ship on the
state date. Bank funding a shipment require this type of B/L and
not a received for shipment Bill of Lading. This is the second type
of B/L

Received for shipment Bill of Lading:

This B/L serve only as a receipt for goods accepted for shipment on a
named ship, and does not certify their placement aboard the ship.
Used where the goods arrive at the port of departure before the
ship does, this type of B/L is not considered a complete B/L and is
replaced by a shipped on board bill of lading when the goods do go
onboard

Besides, Bill of Lading can be classified into 2 types : Clean Bill of Lading
and Unclean Bill of Lading, or Liner B/L and B/L to be used with
Charter Party, so on.
