Measurement of Sound
Pressure, P, usually Pascal's
Frequency, f, usually Hertz
Intensity, I, usually W/m2
Bels, L, derived from logarithmic ratio
Decibels, L, derived from bels
P = 1/f
I = W/A
L = log (Q/Qo)
L = 10*log (Q/Qo)
NOISE POLLUTION
By definition, noise pollution takes place when there is
either excessive amount of noise or an unpleasant sound
that causes temporary disruption in the natural balance.
Noise pollution is a serious health hazard and can
cause annoyance and aggression, hypertension, high stress
levels, Tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep disturbances, heart
disease, mental illness and other serious effects on health
Noise which is above 80dn is specified as polluting noise

INDUSTRIALIZATION
Many industries uses heavy machinery and various
equipments like compressors, generators, exhaust fans,
grinding mills also participate in producing noise
pollution
They produce noise in the range of 75-85 db of sound.
workers in these factories and industries wear ear plugs
to minimize the effect of noise.
Construction or Isolation of industries from the living
area will also prevent people and animals to get
effected by the noise pollution

AWAZZ FOUNDATION
Sumaira Abdulali
It is a non-governmental organisation in India, which
builds awareness, carries out advocacy, and is involved in
educational projects to protect the environment and
prevent environmental pollution.
The Foundation has filed several public interest litigations,
including demands for strict implementation of noisepollution laws
It was spread across India and also strives for legal issues
in sand mafia.
EFFECTS OF
NOISE POLLUTION
NOISE POLLUTION
HUMAN BEINGS
HEARING
ANIMALS
BEHAVOUIR PROBLEMS
HEALTH ISSUES
SLEEPING DISOREDER
CARDIOVASCULAR ISSUES
TROUBLE COMMUNICATION
COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS
HEARING LOSS
HEARING PROBLEM
Constant exposure to noises in the range of 50-75 db can
cause this problem
Man made noises such as jackhammers, horns, machinery,
airplanes and even vehicles can be too loud for our hearing
range
Constant exposure to loud levels of noise can easily result
in the damage of our ear drums and loss of hearing
It also reduces our sensitivity to sounds that our ears pick
up unconsciously to regulate our bodys rhythm.
HEALTH ISSUES
Excessive noise pollution in working areas such as offices,
construction sites, bars and even in our homes can
influence psychological health
The occurrence of aggressive
behaviour, disturbance of sleep,
constant stress, fatigue and
hypertension can be linked to
excessive noise levels
SLEEPING DISORDER
Loud noise can certainly hamper your sleeping pattern and
may lead to irritation and uncomfortable situations
Without a good night sleep, it may lead to problems
related to fatigue and your performance may go down in
office as well as at home.
It is therefore recommended
to take a sound sleep to give
your body proper rest
CARDIOVASCULAR ISSUES
Blood pressure levels, cardio-vascular disease and stress
related heart problems are on the rise
Studies suggest that high intensity noise causes high blood
pressure and increases heart beat rate as it disrupts the
normal blood flow.
Bringing them to a manageable
level depends on our
understanding noise pollution
and handling it
COMMUNICATION
High decibel noise can put trouble and may not allow two
people to communicate freely.
This may lead to misunderstanding and you may get
difficult understanding the other person.
Constant sharp noise can
give you severe headache
and disturb your emotional
balance.
EFFECT ON ANIMALS
Wildlife faces far more problems than humans because
noise pollution since they are more dependent on sound
They become disoriented more easily and face many
behavioural problems
Animals may suffer from hearing loss, which makes them
easy prey and leads to dwindling populations. Others
become inefficient at hunting, disturbing the balance of the
eco-system.
Pets react more aggressively in households where there is
constant noise
