MBNQA(Malcolm Baldrige
National Quality Awards)

• MBNQA was established by the US congress in 1987 .

• Purpose:
• 1. Promote better quality management practices
• 2. Improved quality results by the American Industry

• Upto two awards may be issued annually in three
categories,

1.Large manufacturers
2.Large services
3.Small businesses

• To be eligible a company must be incorporated and
located in the united states, and it must submit a 75-
page application package .

• A board of examiners reviews and evaluates the


applications. High scoring applications receive site
examinations.

– Wallace Company (1990) defunct
• It takes 8 to 12 years to develop a
quality system that is competitive
for the award

Deming prize
 The Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers
(JUSE) awards Deming Prize to
1.A company or
2.Its division.

• Based on the distinctive performance improvements


achieved by it through the application of company
wide quality control (CWQC)

Prize has three award
categories
They are

1.Individual person,
2.The Deming Application Prizes, and
3.The Quality Control Award for factory.

 The Deming Application prizes are awarded to private


or public organizations and are subdivided into
small enterprises, divisions of large corporations,
and overseas companies.
