Origins
The first use of the term Meninist
was seen on the website
feminist.com in 2001.
The term here appears to be
general femininist believes but
rebranded.
4) We understand the need for
men to participate in the women's
movement and help end 2000
years of men's patriarchy. We
pledge to support women in every
possible way we can, including
sharing responsibilities around the
house and in parenting.

Social Media
Influence
Todays meninism has become a phenomenon
particularly in the USA but is spreading to the
UK and Europe.
The term began when @MeninistTweets began
their page.
The tweets began as extreme satire and a
reaction to the new wave feminism that is
prevalent on similar social networking sites
(ie; Tumblr, Facebook) and among teenagers
and young adults.
Tweets about how men were repressed just as
much as women and that men needed to ask
for the same levels of equality as the feminists
were.
However hashtags related to the topic
became popular and the satire was lost. (ie.
#MeninistTwitter, #YesAllMen)
Now there are men and women wearing
official meninist.co merchandise and proudly
calling themselves meninist.

Article Research

The rapid growth of the meninist movement means that traditional print
media has taken notice.
Writer for the Telegraph Martin Daubney, who has written a number of
articles looking at gender, equality and societies movements to do with them
(ie. Is feminism destroying the institution of marriage?, Fat men dont need
empowerment, they just need to loose weight) chose to now look into
meninism
The article appears to be fairly pro-meninism, Daubney seems to be against
the new younger feminism that meninism was satirising. (ie. Its enough to
get any self-righteous feminist choking on their quinoa)
Pointing out the origins of a pointlessly rebranded feminist movement,
meninism was a straight-up, mens wing of feminism; a neutered sheep in
wolfs clothing.

Article Research
This article, written by students of Oxford University takes a different
stance to the one previous, outlining the wrongs rather than looking for
silver linings.
They too have researched and appear to have read The Telegraph
article, agreeing with the positive issues that could be raised through this
movement
An important point that they make is how the Mens Rights Movement
(MRM) like to beat women down in their attempts to raise important
issues, victimising themselves and demonising women.
Another subculture related to meninism and mentioned in the article, are
known as pick up artists (PUA) known as the pick-up artist or PUA
community, is a movement of men whose goal is seduction and sexual
success with/access to women. Members of the community often call
themselves pickup artists (PUA). Pickup artist Wikipedia and though
meninists can reject their hyper masculine ideals, they still can see
women as mainly a sexual object that they need to maintain (such as
with the Santa Barbara murders perpetrated by Elliot Rodger, who blamed
PUAs for his lack of involvment with females).

How This Influences Us

Looking at first the general definition of
meninism, its origins in name and social media
and how articles have now been made and been
noticed by the media.
This has helped us to see how important the
internet and social media sites are for peoples
opinions to he heard and movements to begin.
But also how it can be detrimental to other
groups in the process.
Therefor I feel we should look at social medias
impact in creating flash movements, such as
meninism, but also how this effects older
movements, like feminism and the negative
