HISTORY

The British brought cricket to India in the early 1700s, with the first cricket
match played in 1721

In the early 1900s, some Indians went on to play for the English cricket
team.

India recorded their first Test victory against England at Madras (Chennai)
in 1952

Later in the same year, they won their first Test series, which was
against Pakistan

The key to India's bowling in 1970 were the Indian spin attackers- Bishan
Singh Bedi, Eas Prasanna etc.

SACHIN TENDULKAR

Born on 24th April 1973 in Mumbai

Sachin Tendulkar was the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997 and
recently, the ICC Player of the Year for 2010.

He is the leading run-getter and centurion in Tests and ODIs.

He became the first batsman to score a 200 in ODIs.

He holds the record as the youngest Indian to make an international debut

Tendulkar has got the highest number of Man of the Match and Man of
the Series, awards in ODIs.

ZAHEER KHAN

Zaheer Khan was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2008.

He is India's most successful left-arm seamer and the third most


successful in the World.

Zaheer became the third Indian bowler to take more than 150
wickets in tests outside India.

He was India's highest wicket taker in the 2003 ICC World Cup.

As of December 2010, his 75 against Bangladesh in 2004 was


the Highest test score by the 11th batsman.

HARBHAJAN SINGH

Born on 3rd July 1980 in Jalandhar, Punjab

He made his first class debut in 1997 against Services in Ranji


trophy.

He is the second highest wicket taker among off-spinners in the


world and is the 11th highest wicket taker in the world in test
matches.

He has achieved the highest ODI and Test ranking of 4 , highest


batting ranking of 71 for tests and 110 for ODI.

MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI

He is the first World T20 winning teams captain.

In 2007 in South Africa India beat Pakistan on the World T20


final.

During his captaincy, India won 9 consecutive ODI matches


which is the highest for any Indian captain.

Dhoni has the highest batting average of 48.78 among Indian


batsmen who played more than 50 matches.

M.S. Dhoni became the second world cup winning captain in


India when he led his team in World Cup final in 2011. Before
that Kapil Dev and his team won the world cup in 1983.

1983 WORLD CUP

India beat defending champion West Indies in the final by


43 runs.

When Indian captain Kapil Dev lifted the World Cup at


The Lords, in England, the World got the 2nd champion
of the ODI cricket after West Indies.

Mohinder Amarnath became the Man of the Match in


the Final & the Semi-final. His all-round performance in
the tournament helped India to become the World
champion.

INDIA WON THE ASIA CUP5 TIMES

After 15 long years, on 24th June 2010, India repeated the


history, clinching Asia Cup against Sri Lanka by 81 runs in
the final at Sri Lanka.

In 2010, it was the 5th occasion that India won the Asia Cup
title , since the inauguration of the tournament way back in
1984.

India reached the Asia Cup final ,8 out of 10 times and won
5 times (1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995 & 2010).

INDIA WON ICC WORLD CUP T20, 2007

On 24th September 2007, India won the first ICC World T20
Championship, beating Pakistan by 5 runs in a thrilling final at
Johannesburg, South Africa.

Indian T20 captain M.S. Dhoni became the first captain ever, to lift
the trophy of ICC World T20 Championship.

Irfan Pathans brilliant bowling (4-0-16-3) and Indian Opener


Gautam Gambhirs excellent knock (75 runs of 54 balls) helped
India to win the final.

One of the biggest record in the tournament was made by Yuvraj


Singh who hit 6 sixes in an over & scored a 50 in just 12 balls.

INDIA WAS RANKED NUMBER ONE IN


On 6th December 2009, India was the third team after Australia
ICC TEST RANKING, 2009
and South Africa to surge, to the top of the ladder since the Test
Championship was first introduced in May 2001.

Indias ascent to the No.1 position in the ICC Test ratings is


largely due to the improved performance, under the captaincy of
the current Indian captain M. S. Dhoni.

Sehwag, Harbhajan, Zaheer , Dhoni & Gambhir have


contributed consistently to achieve the No. 1 spot in Test
ranking.

INDIA WON THE ICC 2011 ODI WORLD


CUP

Under The Captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni India managed to seize


its second ODI World cup win after 28 long years.

India played their finals at Mumbai against Sri lanka

Sri Lanka got off to a good start - but not a great one. Their top players
couldn't score freely and were out without scoring heavily.

Mahela Jayawardane stepped up and took on the responsibility of


steering the innings. He scored 103 runs. Sri Lanka made it to 275 runs

And when India took to the field to start the batting Sachin Tendulkar
got out for 18 and Sehwag got out cheaply.

Virat Kohli came into the middle and scored a respectable 35


runs.

Dhoni rose to the occasion. He went about scoring runs with a


quiet pace.

Gambhir got out on the score of 97, with India needing just 53
odd runs

And in the 49th over, the skipper M.S. Dhoni won the World
Cup for India, hitting the biggest six of the match, in great
style. India had won the World Cup. India were crowned as
the Champions.
