SRAL XD
Physical Interfaces Description I
The IDU Controller Unit acts as an IP router able to route all the IP packets towards the NMS through
the following management interfaces:
R channel: Reserved 64 Kbps (full duplex) synchronous contra-directional channel embedded into
the radio frame
D-ext: 64 kbit/s synchronous co/contra-directional channel available trough V.11 external interface
of the SRAL XD Access Unit. It can be used as alternative to the D-embedded channel
D-embedded: 64 kbit/s synchronous contra-directional channel embedded into a selected time slot
of the 2 Mbit/s tributary signal. It can be used as alternative to the D-ext channel
Q-LAN: LAN 100BaseT Ethernet interface used for transmission of management information
between the co-located SRAL XD NEs and the Management System. It can be used as alternative to
the V-bus channel
V-LAN: LAN 10BaseT Ethernet interface used for daisy chain connection of co-located SRAL XD
NEs. An external HUB should be necessary in case of more than 4 SRAL XD indoor units co-colated. It
can be used as alternative to the V-bus channel

SRAL XD
Physical Interfaces Description II
V-BUS: RS-485 interface (128 Kbps Half Duplex) used for daisy chain connection of co-located
SRAL XD NEs and SRAL NEs. It can be used as alternative to the Q/V-LAN interface. This interface is
only available for SRAL XD Plug-in from SVR 3.5 onward.
RS-232: RS-232 Serial Interface for LCT connection. It can also be used for interworking purposes.
All the above management interfaces uniquely identified by the IDU Controller IP address and support
the RIPv1 routing protocol.

Auxiliary Channel:
User Channel: 64 Kbps synchronous data channel for user defined applications. It can be used to
transport transparently the management information of 3 rd party equipment over the Siemens Radio
towards the NMS. This 64 Kbps is externally available through V.11 interface configurable as either
contradirectional or co-directional mode.

The DCN planning is based on the following Bottlenecks:

C: Routing Capability of the Node X. It is defined as the number of packets routed by the Node X
per second (pkt/sec)
B: Link Bandwidth defined as number of bits per second (bits/sec)
The maximum number Nmax of NEs (including Node X) is calculated considering:
More restricting parameter between B and C
DCN traffic generated by each of the NEs belonging to the Sudnetwork (average values
calculated via proper algoritms based on statistical theory)

SRAL XD
DCN Summary - Addressing Rules
The SRAL XD controller acts as a Router that routes IP packets through the following

management interfaces: R-Channel, RS-232, D-ext, D-embedded, Q/V LAN, V-BUS

All the above management interfaces uniquely identified by the IDU Controller IP address
For each SRALXD two consecutive IP addresses must be reserved. The first IP must be
assigned to the controller, while the second IP address will be automatic assigned to the
LCT connected via RS-232 interface
All the management interfaces support the RIPv1 routing protocol
The RIPv1 protocol can be also disabled, in this case static routing table are used
Up to 20 Routing Entries can be set in a static routing table
Max 130 Dynamic Routing Entries are allowed without routing throughput degradation
The SRALXDs connected via R-channel, D-ext and D-embedded interface belong to
different sub-networks
The SRALXDs connected via V/Q Ethernet or V-BUS interface belong to same subnetwork
