I. The History of the Feminist

Movement

18th The beginning of the social

manifestation called The
Feminist Movement
The Feminist movement divides
its evolution in two periods:

The first wave: the campaign for

equal rights winning the right to
vote (womans suffrage)

The second wave: physical and

psychological differences
between women and men are
being emphasised

Effects of the Feminist

Movement
1.

Effects on civil rights: womens

suffrage

2.

Effects on religion: embracing

new forms of religion

3.

Effects on education: the moral

education of children is not
considered the exclusive
responsibility of women

The Feminist Metaphysics

Feminism
Liberation struggle

Social theory

Political movement

Feminism: from a Movement

to an Idea
Achievements of the Feminist
Movement

Feminism is not yet a accomplished

movement

-the right to vote

-women continue to be concentrated

in low-paying jobs

- transformed the portrayal of women -violence against women is still

by the media

widespread

-introduced the demand for womens

-the responsibility for childcare

remains largely the responsibility of
women

equality into politics, religion

-framed inequality and oppression in
family

-the imbalance in power between men

and women still exists

Feminism: from a Movement

to an Idea

Feminism is no longer a mass

movement

Despite the acceptance of

womens equality gender equality
has not yet been achieved

The womans movement has been

weakened by the loss of
confidence in the possibility that
collective action can bring about
social change

Criticism of the Feminist

Movement
Critics claim that:

feminist promote misandry,

even male inferiority

feminist are biased by the lens

that filters their world views

in the name of protecting

women, men are discriminated
against, when they are subjects
of claims

Feminism Today
Modern feminists still deal with
issues of their predecessors
The goal concerning the feminist
movement today refers to
promoting a positive image of
female sexuality
Feminists today illustrate the idea
that gender equality can be
achieved only by developing a
partnership between men and
women

The Attitude of Male towards

the Feminist Movement

Feminism has only been seriously

thought about by far too few men

Feminism is stereotyped by many

men as a group of complaining
women, seen as unnecessary

Even if the relationship between

men and women has improved,
there are still things that need to be
changed in order to achieve fully
equality

For feminism to carry on

successfully, there needs to be a
great inclusion of men

Feminism and gender

equality
Gender equality is a problem that
feminism has reached to attenuate by:

Developing a partnership between

men and women in society

Offering them the chance to face

and understand their differences

Giving them the chance of finding

the way to complete each other, to
form a perfect whole

In the end

Feminism is a contemporaneous
movement that still presents
interest and has become generally
accepted in society

The Feminist Movement

emphasizes the effort that women
have made in order to understand
their true self and be eliberated
from the bondage of past customs
