Department of Social Welfare

To provide protection and rehabilitation to the


target groups;
To develop society through change in attitude and
capability to be independent;
To establish a caring society; and
To enhance the well-being of society through
professional social welfare services and social
development programmes.

To serve as a training centre for NAM countries


to promote and undertake training and research

To develop skills for government officials,
NGOs, private sector representatives and
individuals to enable them to formulate gender
sensitive and gender responsive legislation and

Malaysians and sharing similar objectives with the NWF;
To disseminate information in the field of social welfare;
To sponsor the attendance of participants to seminars,
conferences and workshops pertaining to social welfare;
and
To promote and sponsor research in the field of social
welfare services.

WOMEN
National Policy on Women and National Plan of Action for the Advancement of
Women was introduced in 2009 to reflect the governments commitment towards
optimising the potential of women in the social and economic development of the nation.
The objectives of the National Policies on Women are:
Equitable sharing in the acquisition of resources and information;
Access to opportunities and benefits of development, for both men and women; and
Integrate women in all sectors of national development in line with their abilities and
needs in order to improve the quality of life, eradicate poverty, abolish ignorance and
illiteracy and ensure a peaceful and prosperous nation.
