REPAIR AND

MAINTENANCE

General Precautions
When performing service to electrical parts that does not
require use of battery power, disconnect the negative cable of
the battery.
When removing the battery, disconnect the negative cable first
and then the positive cable. When reconnecting the battery,
connect the positive cable first and then the negative cable,
and replace the terminal cover.
Whenever you use oil seals, gaskets, packing, O-rings, locking
washers, split pins, self-locking nuts, and certain other parts as
specified, be sure to use new ones. Also, before installing new
gaskets, packing, etc., be sure to remove any residual material
form the mating surfaces.
Be sure to use special tools when instructed.

General PrecautionsElectrical
circuit
When disconnecting and connecting coupler, make sure to

turn ignition switch OFF, or electronic parts may get

damaged.
Be careful not to touch the electrical terminals of parts
which use microcomputers (e.g. electronic control unit like
as ECM, PCM, P/S controller, etc.). The static electricity from
your body can damage these parts.
When disconnecting couplers, dont pull wire harness but
make sure to hold coupler itself. With lock type coupler, be
sure to unlock before disconnection. Attempt to disconnect
coupler without unlocking may result in damage to coupler.
When connecting lock type coupler, insert it till clicking
sound is heard and connect it securely.

General PrecautionsElectrical circuit

Never connect any tester (voltmeter, ohmmeter, or

whatever) to electronic control unit when its coupler is
disconnected. Attempt to do it may cause damage to it.
Never connect an ohmmeter to electronic control unit
with its coupler connected to it. Attempt to do it may
cause damage to electronic control unit and sensors.
Be sure to use a specified voltmeter/ohmmeter.
Otherwise, accurate measurements may not be obtained
or personal injury may result. If not specified, use a
voltmeter with high impedance (MV minimum) or a
digital type voltmeter.
When taking measurements at electrical connectors
using a tester probe, be sure to insert the probe from the
wire harness side (backside) of the connector.

EngineDrive Belt Inspection and

Replacement
Water pump belt inspection
1)
Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2)
Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear
and cleanliness. Replace if any defect exists.
3)
Check pump belt for tension and adjust if it is out
of
specification.
Water pump belt tension : 6 7 mm deflection under
100N
When replacing belt with a new one, adjust belt
tension to
3 4 mm
4) Connect negative cable to battery.

Engine Oil and Filter

Change

Before draining engine oil, check engine for oil leakage. If any
evidence of leakage is found, make sure to correct defective
part before proceeding to the following work.
1) Drain engine oil by removing drain plug
2) After draining oil, wipe drain plug clean. Reinstall drain plug,
and tighten it securely to torque 50 N-m
3) Loosen oil filter by using oil filter wrench
4) Apply engine oil to new oil filter O ring.
5) Screw new filter on oil filter stand by hand until filter O
ring contacts mounting surface.
CAUTION:
To tighten oil filter properly, it is important to accurately
identify the position at which filter O ring first contacts
mounting surface.

Engine Oil and Filter

Change

6) Tighten filter 3/4 turn from the point of contact with

mounting surface using an oil filter wrench.
7) Replenish oil until oil level is brought to FULL level
mark on dipstick (oil pan and oil filter capacity). Filler
inlet is at the top of cylinder head cover.
8) Start engine and run it for three minutes. Stop it and
wait another 5 minutes before checking oil level. Add oil,
as necessary, to bring oil level to FULL level mark on
dipstick.
1. Low level mark
2. Full level mark
9) Check oil filter and drain plug for oil leakage.

Engine Coolant
Change

1)Remove radiator cap when engine is cool.

2) Loosen radiator drain plug (1) to drain coolant.
3) Remove reservoir and drain.
4) Tighten drain plug securely. Also install reservoir.
5) Slowly pour specified amount of coolant to the base of radiator
filler neck, and run engine, with radiator cap removed, until
radiator upper hose is hot. This drives out any air which may still
be trapped within cooling system. Add coolant as necessary until
coolant level reaches filler throat of radiator. Reinstall radiator cap.
6) Add coolant to reservoir so that its level aligns with FULL level
line. Then, reinstall cap to reservoir aligning match marks on the
reservoir and cap.
WARNING:Do not remove radiator cap while engine and
radiator are still hot. steam can be blown out under pressure if cap
is taken off too soon.
CAUTION:- When changing engine coolant, use mixture of 50%
water and 50% ethylene-glycol base coolant (Anti-Freeze/Anticorrosion coolant)
