Introduction
Model and simulation give a lots of benefits in

education and has become a part of advanced

learning environment.
Model and simulation are the best way to provide a
foundation of an effective integrating of teaching
and learning.
Helps students to learn in a better way with the
used of modelling and simulation.

What is model ?
An instructional strategy in which the teacher

demonstrates a new concept or approach to learning

and students learn by observing.
One of an essential teaching tool and it is similar to
but it simpler than the system it represents.
A simplified representation of the actual system
intended to promote better understanding.

What is simulation ?
Particular type of modelling. A simulation of a system is the

operation of a model of the system.

The operation of the model can be studied hence, properties
concerning the behaviour of the actual system or its subsystem
can be inferred.
Simulation is a tool to evaluate the performance of a system,
existing or proposed, under different configurations of interest
and over long periods of real time.
Simulation model programs give the opportunity to experiment
with phenomena or events and a sense of reality in abstract
fields, like information science.
The use of simulations represents the natural way of learn by
doing.

What is STELLA ?
One of the computer simulation-

based model-building and

simulation tool
a software that can be used to
simulate a system over time. It
enable students to creatively
change systems and teach the
students to look for relationships
clearly communicate system
inputs and outputs and
demonstrate outcomes. It provide

Simple Nitrogen Cycle

The nitrogen cycle is the process by which nitrogen is

converted between its various chemical forms.

This transformation can be carried out through both
biological and physical processes.
The important processes in the nitrogen cycle include
fixation, mineralization, nitrification, and
denitrification.
Human activities such as fossil fuel combustion, use of
artificial nitrogen fertilizers, and release of nitrogen in
wastewater have dramatically altered the global nitrogen
cycle.

The experiment was run. The result includes four

graphs. At the beginning, the experiment was run

without changing any parameters. This result will act
as a controller for the whole experiment.

Graph 1 act as a control for this experiment. The

values of all parameters were fixed and will be

referred to the next experiment
From the graph, students will observed that, when
the value of the humification fraction is 0.2500 and
mineralization fraction value is 0.0500, all the values
of nitrogen in humus, nitrogen in organic matter,
nitrogen in biomass and available nitrogen constant
for each time. This is because, the organic matter
becomes the limiting factor.

For the second time running, the humification

fraction button was adjusted and the value is

increased to half of the fraction,0.5100.

Humification fraction increased, the nitrogen in

humus also increased and the value of nitrogen in

organic matter becomes decreased
The values of nitrogen in organic matter higher than
nitrogen in biomass in time 0.00 to 5.00.
At a certain time, all the values of parameters
become constant due to limiting factor of organic
matter

For the third time running, the humification fraction

button was adjusted and the value is increased to the

maximized values which is 1.0000.

When the humification fraction maximized, the

nitrogen in humus also increased and the value of

nitrogen in organic matter becomes decreased.
The values of nitrogen in organic matter lower than
nitrogen in biomass in time 0.00 to 1.00.
Over time 1.00, both values were same and constant.
At a certain time, all the values of parameters
become constant due to limiting factor of organic
matter

For the last time running, The mineralization

fraction button was adjusted and the value is

increased to 0.1000.

when the mineralization fraction increased, the

nitrogen in organic matter increased and the value of

nitrogen in humus decreased.
The values of nitrogen in organic matter higher than
nitrogen in biomass in time 0.00 to 5.00.
Over time 5.00, both values become constant.
At a certain time, all the values of parameters
become constant due to limiting factor of organic
matter.

Conclusion For Experiment

At the end of simulation experiment, students can

conclude that, the values of humification fraction

and mineralization fraction are dependent on the
amounts of organic matter. If the amount of organic
matter become the limiting factor, the process will
affected

Conclusion
Simulation and modelling offer many key advantages

over real life and education. It give many benefit and

help us to visualize the data. We are able to see the
pattern and draw a conclusions from the experiment.
It can promote the deep learning that can enhanced
the understanding. Moreover, students can know the
relationship between the variables in the model.
Student are able to conduct the experiment more
easier and faster. Simulations help students
understand probability and sampling theory.
