ACETAMINOPHEN

What is Acetaminophen
Acetaminophen is a pain reliever
(analgesics) and a fever reducer
(antipyretics). It works by changing the way
the body senses pain and by cooling the
body.
Acetaminophen comes as a tablet, chewable
tablet, capsule, suspension or solution
(liquid), extended-release (long-acting)
tablet, and orally disintegrating tablet (tablet
that dissolves quickly in the mouth), to take
by mouth, with or without food.
Acetaminophen also comes as a suppository
to use rectally.
What is Acetaminophene
used for?
Acetaminophen is used to treat many
conditions such as headache, muscle
aches, arthritis, backache,
toothaches, colds, and fevers
Acetaminophen may also be used to
relieve the pain of osteoarthritis
(arthritis caused by the breakdown of
the lining of the joints).
Storage
Store tablets and solutions at room
temparature 15 - 30 C (59 - 86
F). Suppositories should be
refrigerated below 27 C (80 F)
Dosage
The oral dose for adults is 325 to 650 mg
every 4 to 6 hours. The maximum daily dose
is 4 grams.
The oral dose for a child is based on the
childs age, and the range is 40-650 mg
every 4 hours.
When admistered as a suppository, the
adult dose is 650 mg every 4 to 6 hours.
For children, the dose is 80-325 mg every 4
to 6 hours depending on age.
