INTRODUCTION
The most important part in the automobile is the hand
brake which is also known as a latching brake.
It is used generally when the automobile is parked, thus
the alternative name i.e., parking brakes is used to keep
the car stationary .
The most common use of a parking brake is to keep the
vehicle motionless when it is parked.
Brakes have a ratchet & pawl mechanism usually
consist of a cable directly connected to the brake
mechanism this will keep them engaged until a release
mechanism button is pressed by the driver.
2
LITERATURE SURVEY
A traditional handbrake is very simple by pulling the lever
up by pulling two cables which run to each of the rear
brakes. By adding tension to these cables, this in turn
causes the pads (or shoes for cars with drum brakes) to
squeeze against the discs (or drums) to hold the rear
wheels firmly in place. Some cars with disc brakes have
separate handbrake drum-brake shoes or even a separate
disc-brake caliper for the handbrake. Later electronic
parking brake replaces this mechanical system with an
electrical one. By pressing the switch, motors on each
brake caliper squeeze the pads into the disc.
3
NEED OF HANDBRAKE?
In the modern lifestyle braking of cars is itself a tedious
and important process.
Places like Inclined roads(hill road) to avoid slipping of
wheel we need brake at that time.
So we require a system which can make braking easy,
less time taking to stop the car.
The system should also be less expensive as people will
not like to spend much extra money for such accessories.

4
EXISTING SYSTEM
It is operated manually by the driver.
It has ratchet locking & pawl mechanism.
It is operated by pulling the lever upward with hand to
apply the brake and pushing the lever to release it.

5
CONCEPT
This system works electro-mechanically by using dc
motors and micro switch.
The input to system is given by ignition key position . As
when the ignition switch is turned OFF (i.e. car is parked),
brake must engage and when the ignition switch is turned
on (i.e. car is moving), brake must disengage.

6
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In existing system, it is observed that due to
manual errors that brake remain engaged when
vehicle is moving or sometimes driver forget to
remove the handbrake.
Electric components get damage after a particular
time.
Skilled/ experience person is require to recover
the system, if the system get damage.

7
OBJECTIVE
To increase the safety by using modified parking brake
system named as Automatic Handbrake engagement and
release system. In this modified system, we are going to
control Handbrake automatically without manual
interfere. This system works on the input by ignition key
positon. As when the ignition switch turned ON,
handbrake must disengage and vice versa.

8
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Working of developed a model which is Automatic
braking for four wheeler when lock the ignition switch
then automatically hand brake lever in braking condition
and the releasing when ON the ignition switch.
This system works electro-mechanically by using micro
switch and motor.
The system is actuated by two micro switch
i.e. micro switch one work for the engagement
of hand brake & other switch work for
disengagement.

DESIGN OF PARAMETER
Selection of Battery
An electric battery is a device consisting of one or more
electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy
into electrical energy. Each cell contains a positive
terminal, or cathode, and a negative terminal, or anode.
Electrolytes allow ions to move between the electrodes
and terminals, which allows current to flow out of the
battery to perform work.
Battery: 7.2 Amp Hour 12 Volts Sealed Lead Acid Battery.

12
Selection Of Motor
Motor 12V DC OF 300 RPM
An electric motor is a machine which converts electric
energy into mechanical energy. Its action is based on
the principle that when a current carrying conductor is
placed in magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical
force whose direction is given Flemings Left Hand
Rule.

13
CALCULATION
Specification of the DC motor,
Toque (T) = 8 N-m
Speed (N) = 300 rpm
We know that,
Power (P) = 2NT/60
= (23.143008])/60
= 251 watt
Power of the motor (P) = 251 watt.

14
ADVANTAGES
Improves parking experience in hills.
Very compact.
Reduce/Eliminate the manual interaction.

15
DISADVANTAGES
Maintenance cost high.
Skilled operator required.

16
APPLICATONS
Industrial purpose.
Agricultural purpose.
Automobile application.

17
CONCLUSION
The present invention therefore provides
a system which, compared to the known
concepts, permits considerably greater
availability with an extremely simple and
favorable structural concept. Greater
availability is understood to mean that
the parking brake is to be as far as
possible always capable of operating.
