A Passenger Service Unit (PSU) is an aircraft component situated above each

row in the overhead panel above the passenger seats in the cabin .

A PSU contains:

1) Reading lights
2) Loudspeakers
3) illuminated signs
4) Air-conditioned vents called Passenger Louvers, which provides fresh air supply
(gasper air)
5)Oxygen supply line and automatically deployed oxygen masks where during
emergency, it shall falls out if cabin altitude rises above 10,000 feet.

OVERHEAD
STOWAGE
COMPARTMENTS
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology

The OVERHEAD STOWAGE COMPARTMENTS - are installed above the left and
right (and centre-for large aircraft)seat rows according to the cabin layout of the
aircraft. Its purpose is to cover storage compartment on an aircraft where
passengers stores carry-on luggage, so it is accessible during flight.

It is designed to take up as little space as possible while having enough space

for small carry-on luggage. A simple design is required in order to limit weight
on the aircraft. The aircraft stowage bin mechanism (DOOR) is designed to pivot
between open and closed positions.

It is built with Composite Material

& it is extremely DURABLE yet

to supply.., Operators can choose to
have bins of differing SIZE,SHAPE or

PASSENGER
SEAT
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology

INTRODUCTIO
N
A PASSENGER SEAT is a seat on an Airliner in which passengers are
accommodated for the duration of the journey. Such seats are usually
arranged in rows running across the airplane's FUSELAGE.
The seats are attached to rails underneath the floor which run along the
aircraft fuselage.

For passenger safety, airline seats are equipped with SEATBELTS, and
there is a FASTEN SEATBELT" sign above each seat, which is lit up when
passengers are expected to remain seated with the seatbelt fastened. This
is during taxiing, take-off and landing, although during TURBULENCE may
also prompt the Captain to turn on this sign.

Seats are frequently equipped with further

amenities. Passenger seats may be equipped with
a RECLINING MECHANISM for increased
passenger comfort, either reclining mechanically
or electrically .

Most aircraft also feature TRAYS for eating and

reading, either in the seatback which folds down to
form a small table in most economy class seats, or
inside the armrest which folds out in most first
class, business class, bulkhead, and exit row
seats.

Most seats also feature a pocket which may

contain an in-flight magazine and Safety
Information & instructions card.
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology

Seats may be equipped with power

ports (either EmPower, AC, DC, or
USB power-only sockets) for small
electrical appliances and ports for
headphone for the audio entertainment.

Some airlines also place TV-screens in

the back of each seat as part of the
In-Flight Entertainment System
on long-haul aircraft.

SEAT SIZE
* When evaluating the size (and comfort) of a seat, the main terms used are
PITCH and WIDTH.
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology

SEAT WIDTH - is the distance from ARM-REST to ARM-REST, and shall be dependent
to type of seat classes. In Economy Class this is typically around 43-46 cm. (17
18 inches)
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology

SEAT PITCH- refers to the space between a point on one seat and the same point
on the seat in front of it. For many Airliners, the seat pitch in ECONOMY CLASS is
30 to 32 inches (76 to 81 cm).

More seat pitch can mean more legroom, but legroom is also affected by the
thickness of the seat back. The largest seat pitch in any commercial airline's short-
haul economy section is 36 inches (91 cm) in multiple airliners' aircraft. BUSINESS
CLASS seat pitch can go up to 62 inches (160 cm), and in the FIRST CLASS flatbed
seats can have a seat pitch of 94 inches (240 cm).

The seat pitch on LOW COST CARRIERS can be as low as 28 inches (71 cm) .

UPPER SIDEWALL PANELS

Modern commercial aircraft have sidewall panels located in the cabin to cover
the aircraft frame as well as the aircraft wiring, ducting and insulation which are
located along the length of the cabin. In order to maximize efficiency, it is
desirable for an aircraft manufacturer that makes a variety of different model
aircraft to have a single-size cabin sidewall panel which can be installed on
these various aircraft.

Some of the obstacles which prevent the use of a common aircraft sidewall
panel are :

(1)differences between the models in cabin height

(2)differences in cabin curvature, and
(3)differences in spacing between the individual frames of the different model
aircraft.

It is desirable, therefore, to provide a cabin sidewall panel which overcomes

these obstacles and which can be used on different sizes of aircraft.

LOWER SIDEWALL PANELS

Commonly known as DADO PANEL - is a spring-closed panel which covers and

protects the juncture of the aircrafts cabin flooring and the fabric-covered
interior wall. They open at 0.5 P.S.I.D. in case of RAPID DECOMPRESSION
of Cabin Pressure to minimize floor collapse and overall structural damage.

CEILING PANELS
The main purpose of a ceiling panels assembly are to
provide an attractive, finished appearance and insulate
the cabin against noise, dust, and heat loss.

The ceilings are composed of a number of abutting

panel sections made of plastic or fibre-glass honeycomb
which are attached in some manner to the interior of the
aircraft fuselage structure with clips or some other sort
of retainer.

The panels are made as thin as possible to minimize

weight and are typically 1/4 inch thick.

AIRCRAFT CLOSETS

FOR SAFE-KEEPING PURPOSES OF COAT, JACKET AND PERSONAL GARMENTS

DURING FLIGHT, CLOSETS ARE PROVIDED & NORMALLY FOR THE FIRST &
BUSINESS CLASS SECTION. NOT ALL AIRLINES HAVE THE CLOSET FACILITY.

AIRCRAFT CURTAINS
AIRCRAFT CURTAINS SERVES 3 MAJOR
PURPOSES :

1) TO BLOCK LIGHT IN A GENERAL

2) TO DIVIDE CLASSES OF SERVICE ON

AIRCRAFT PARTITIONS & CLASS DIVIDERS

Cabins of the different TRAVEL CLASSES are often divided by curtains, sometimes
by partitions & bulkheads called CLASS DIVIDERS, but not on all airlines.
Passengers are not usually allowed to visit higher travel class cabins in commercial
flights.
