GAME SENSE APPROACH

CONDUCTED FOR YEAR TWO PRIMARY STUDENTS

ABOUT GAME SENSE

Game Sense is a new way of teaching and coaching which uses games as the main
attention for the class session. Students which are recognised as players develop
encouragements to become more alert and make better decisions whilst
participating the game. This includes understanding the game concepts whilst
developing skills within a realistic context and enjoying themselves. When focusing
on the game, students are encouraged and assisted by their coach to obtain a greater
understanding of the game instructions and rules.

SENSEAPPROACH TO TEACH ABOUT GAMES AND SPORTS FOR YEAR TWO
STUDENTS.GAME SENSEIS AN APPROACH TO MODIFIED SPORT THAT:

This approach assists students to engage in challenging game strategies and

concepts where there are opportunities to develop both skills and an understanding
of the game. The Curriculum Resource, conducted through Australian Government
has been created for teachers and coaches to assist them in supporting their students
in learning about the importance of health and physical activity. The resource is
accomplish with ongoing commitment and will continue to assist sporting
organisation for teachers to use for their students.

how to assess, plan and teach physical activity, with demonstrations of each
skills f0or teaching purposes. The Department of Education has developed a
Fundamental Movement Skills resource to assist teachers in planning a
practical teaching activity and deliver effective learning experiences that will

RATIONALE

Through my understanding of Game Sense approach, I have developed theories of

the strengths in using this approach towards year two students. As this approach
helps to encourage simple modifications to accommodate varying ability levels, so
therefore it increases the challenges. Using game sense approach also benefits in
modifying game rules and the field or the equipments students are using for the
purpose of the game. This refers to attackers kicking the ball beyond the reach of
opponents.
RATIONALE

In addition, the strengths of using the game sense approach is; this gives the ability
in promoting the development of thinking players. This provides students many
opportunity to be creative and think outside of the box on the field. As game sense
approach is involved with having fun, playing with others, using their thinking
skills, communicating with others, inclusion, challenge and player-centred.
GAME SENSE APPROACH

Game sense approach shows many contrasts with the established

traditional technical and directive approach, particularly in terms of the
way in which knowledge, strength, skills and understanding are
developed (Pill, Penney & Swabey, 2012).
