Alzheimer's disease is a progressive,
degenerative disorder that attacks the brain's
nerve cells, or neurons.
It results in loss of memory, thinking and
language skills, and behavioral changes.
This disease dates back to 1906 by Dr. Alois
Alzheimer, a German physician.
CAUSES
The brain chemical produced by the neurons is called
acetylcholine.

These neurons break connections with other nerve cells


and ultimately die.

It causes dementia.

There are three stages:


o Early
o Middle
o Late
Treatments for Alzheimer's
disease

Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer's.

Drug and non-drug treatments may help with both cognitive and
behavioral symptoms.

Researchers are looking for new treatments to improve the quality of life
for people with dementia.
