Study case - 1

(From : 2016 Annual IMB Piracy Report icc-ccs.org)

From the case, we can analyzed some object.

Who and why, the pirates hijacked TB Brahma 12 and barge Anand 12?
What purpose they hijacked that ship?
What economic impact after this case?
And how solve the problems of piracy around that sea?
For information, the pirates is Abu Sayyaf armed militant group was allegedly
involved in the hijacking. They hijacked TB Brahma 12, and the Anand 12
barge were going from Sungai Putting in Kalimantan, which is the Indonesian
part of Borneo island, to Batangas in the southern Philippines. They (the
hijackers claiming to be from the Abu Sayyaf group) and then contact the
owner of the ship for ransom of 50 million pesos (equivalent to 14.2 billion
rupiah) to be met at the latest until March 31, 2016

The purpose hijacked for financing through ransom and extortion. One report
estimated its revenues from ransom payments in 2000 alone between $10
and $25 million. In 2014 and since, kidnapping for ransom has been the
primary means of funding.
Economic impact
For information, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister
Luhut Pandjaitan said the rebel group had been in contact with the company,
Patria Maritime Lines.
"It is agreed that [the company] will pay 50 million pesos, or the equivalent of
Rp 14.3 billion, which will be handed over at a certain location," Luhut said on
Tuesday (19/04/2016), as quoted by Tempo.co.

So,
we can assume many shipping companies between these countries would be
careful crossing the sea. they wouldnt want this cases repeat again. The most
extreme, cut of exports and imports in both countries.
They fear about financial loss because ship hijacking.
Solve piracy between Indonesia and Philipine
government

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of

Foreign Affairs, has approached countries that have a direct
interest in this issue, namely Malaysia and the Philippines.
Malaysia needs to protect Malaysian ship crews who have been
taken hostage by the Abu Sayyaf group.

Indonesia has been trying to deal with the problem, along with
Malaysia and the Philippines. Indonesia, Malaysia and the
Philippines have agreed to begin joint army training later in
2017 to advance efforts to secure the Sulu Sea from rampant
piracy. The military training will take place in Indonesia's
Tarakan in North Kalimantan, Malaysia's Tawao Island and the
Philippines' Bongao Island.

Earlier, Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu

explained that the training locations would later become posts
for a joint taskforce to help secure Sulu waters. The three
countries also have agreed to start joint sea patrols. .
