Introduction
Guidance and counseling have, in all
places, been a vital aspect of higher
education.
One of the purposes of education is to help
the individual in becoming a use full
member of society.
If an individual receives education without
proper guidance and counseling, he is not
able to develop his personality fully and
thus is unable to serve his society in terms
of his abilities and talents.
Good teacher always have been interested
in providing understanding assistance to
students, to help them over come
problems of learning and adjustments so
as to ensure optimum achievement and
profitable replacement.
DEFINITION
Guidance is a process of dynamic interpersonal
relation ships designed to influence the attitudes
and subsequent behavior of a person.

GOOD
Guidance as a process through which an individual
is able to solve their problems and pursue a path
suited to their abilities and aspirations.

Guidance is the help given by one person to
another in making choices and in solving
problems. Further it aims at aiding the
recipient to grow in his independence and
ability to be responsible for him self.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF
GUIDANCE
It focuses our attention on the individual and
not the problem.
Guidance leads to the discovery of abilities of
an individual.
Guidance is based upon the assets and
limitations of an individual.
Guidance leads to self development and self
direction.
Guidance helps the individual to plan wisely
for the present and the future.
Guidance assists the individual to become
adjusted to the environment.

final attainment of continually reevaluate

COUNSELLING
Counseling is said to be the core of the entire
guidance program. It is considered to be the most
vital part of the guidance program.

DEFINITION
Counseling is the helping relationship that
includes someone seeking help, some one willing
to give help who is capable or trained to help, in
a setting that permits help to be given and
received.

Counseling is an accepting trusting and safe
relationship in which client learns to discuss
freely what upsets them, to define their goals,
to acquire the essential social skills and to
develop the courage and self confidence to
implement desired new behavior.

AIMS OF COUNSELING
To help the client to accept actual or impending
changes those are resulting from stress. It
involves psychological, emotional, intellectual and
spiritual support.
To foster cognitive, behavioral, developmental
and emotional growth in clients.
To encourage the client to examine the available
alternatives and to decide or directs which choices
are appropriate and useful for problem salvation.
To develop a sense of control for better
management of stress. It provides an opportunity
for emotional release and to discuss the ways of
coping with problems.
To relieve distress among people, who are
reacting to difficult circumstances?
To change the behavior by reducing the
stress or risk. It helps the counselee to
acquire independence and a sense of
responsibility.
It provides information for the students on
matters important to success.
Establishes mutual relationships and
understanding between the counselor and
counselee.

To encourage and develop special abilities

MAJOR GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
AREAS
EDUCATION: Education problems head the
best of student problems. Hence education is
an important guidance area. The function of
counseling helps the pupils to get maximum
benefit out of education and solve the problems
related to education, classroom or clinical area,
when the following functions are performed.
To help the students to orient themselves, to the
new purposes and philosophy of nursing
education.
To help the pupils identify the need of
educational planning.
To help the pupils make an appraisal of their
own abilities and interest.
To orient pupils with clinical field and
methods of clinical learning.
To orient the pupils with library and other
facilities which are available to them in a
school of nursing and also outside the
institution.
To help pupils choose specialization
according to their needs and interest.

and stimulate item to consider them

Students face so many bad situations at
home or college or university or their peer
groups. They find it difficult to set out of them.
Some guidance needs to be providing to such
students to keep them as the track and lead
noble lives.
MARITAL
Students might need guidance for the right
choice of a life partner.
