WHAT IS LEAN?

LEAN CONSTRUCTION

Lean construction is a new way to design

and build capital facilities.
It challenges the generally accepted
belief that there is always a trade
between time, cost and quality.
It is a combination of operational
research and practical development with
adaption of lean principles and methods.

PRINCIPLES OF LEAN
CONSTRUCTION
Identify value from customers point of
view.
Generally in traditional approach it is what
the customers wants to build. But
according to lean construction it isn't
about what to build but why.
It brings together all stakeholders,
architects, engineers, contractors, sub
contractors and suppliers.
+Define value stream

Once the customers point of view is

clear we can take all necessary
process to deliver those values. This
is called value stream.
For each activity the necessary labor,
information, equipment and material
are defined.

Resource allocation
All stock should be managed
Every day inspection is done to check
that stock is in condition
MOTION
Term refers to the extra steps taken by
people to accommodate inefficient
process layout, defects or excess
inventory.
Motion takes time and add no value to
the product or service
To move and add value is called motion

Drawbacks of Lean

Construction
If there is a break in the lean method chain, than the lean
methodology cannot work.

Training employees with a new system can take some time,

and this could decrease the overall time on a project or
design.

Staying on course with a new system of operation can be

difficult for some managers, and some may grow frustrated.

In order for successful implementation, management officials

must be able to guide employees directly and efficiently.

Cohesive teamwork is essential for lean production. Each

worker has to be well versed in his position or a breakdown
will occur as all workers rely on one another.

Conclusion

Lean Design and construction enhances value on projects and uncovers

wasted time, wasted movement and wasted human potential.

Lean Construction Results in Better time Productivity, Reduced safety

hazards and cost savings.

Lean Construction can lead to strong benefits across a range of

performance such as quality, effective design, etc.

So the Lean construction is more essential to implement in all the

construction project.
