Tips for the classroom
Students must know when they are going to be assessed.
Objective tests are not recommended for younger learners because
they can be too abstract for them. Younger learners can be assessed
through ordinary activities during the teaching and learning process
(informal assessment).
A variety of different activities are recommended for assessment.
Different items can be included in assessment: grammar, language
skills, functions, etc.
The assessment method depends on different circumstances such as
size of the class, age of the learners, what we want to assess, how
often the assessment takes place, etc.
Teachers may want to assess additional things such as homework
fulfilment, effort, participation, motivation, etc. Rubrics are also
useful for assessing such things.
