What is eContent?

eLearning and eTeaching = Use Digital Media


Blended Learning= Combination of conventional teaching and eLearning
Scope:
To develop a collection of educational resources corresponding to each area of the
curriculum intended at supporting students and teachers
Steps:
Collect/ gather all existing e-resources; these resources may have been developed in
NCERT, NIOS, IITs or in other institutions or collected from the web;
Curate these resources; the process of curation will involve selecting the e-resource based
on its utility to the student or the teacher and its suitability for the subject at that level;
developing necessary instructions for its use; appropriate metadata (a format will be
supplied);
Submit these resources to the National Repository of Open Educational Resources for
validation by the Third Party and its dissemination.
What are e-Content Resources?
e-content resources can be of different media types audio, video, images, interactives, write-
ups, data, quiz items, etc.; any digital or digitisable object can be a resource if we can identify an
appropriate use for it in the given teaching learning context;
Video or audio can be short clips, small programmes (1-5 minutes) or larger programmes (up to
20 minutes); programmes longer than these do not fit into the classroom context.
Video can be a demonstration of an experiment or activity; description of an event or
phenomenon; description of a process; a drama; an interview or talk;
Audio can be a recitation or song; a description of an event or phenomenon; a drama; an
interview or talk;
Images can be photographs, drawings, diagrams, info graphics, flow charts, graphs, cartoons,
comic strips, maps;
Data can be in the form of tables, categorised lists, info graphics, maps;
Interactives or manipulative typically require programming or the knowledge of specialised
software; some like geogebra in mathematics are more straight forward, others like simulations
may involve technological capabilities we may not readily possess.
What are e-Content Resources?
All text based documents including write-ups may be submitted as plain text; any conversion will
be done by CIET and RIEs production studios.
All data may be submitted in tabular format; any composite presentation where data and
graphical presentations are presented together may also be in text format; any conversion will
be done by CIET/ RIEs.
Questions / quiz items may of any question type, e.g., short answer, long answer, fill in the blanks,
multiple choice, etc.; they may also contain images and / or video elements;
All text, particularly those in Indian languages must be in UNICODE font only; Any resource taken
from a third party source must be originally available under a creative commons license, no
copyrighted material to be submitted; Credits / citations as per standard academic norms should
be given.
All collected, created, curated resources may be submitted to CIET, as and when they are ready;
transfer of files may be done through pen drives, e-mail or through sharing on Google drive, etc.;
On request, CIET can organise a short orientation with reference to computer / ICT processes,
rules for conversion, submission of resources, licensing, and development of metadata;

Phases of ADDIE Approach
Analyze: Define the needs and constraints
Design: Specify learning activities, assessment and choose

Analysis Phase
In the analysis phase, instructional problem is clarified, the
instructional goals and objectives are established and the
learning environment and learner's existing knowledge and
skills are identified. Below are some of the questions that are
addressed during the analysis phase:
* Who is the audience and their characteristics?
* Identify the new behavioral outcome?
* What types of learning constraints exist?
* What are the delivery options?
* What are the online pedagogical considerations?
* What is the timeline for project completion?
Design Phase
These are steps used for the design phase:
* Documentation of the project's instructional, visual and
technical design strategy
* Apply instructional strategies according to the intended
behavioral outcomes by domain (cognitive, affective,
psychomotor).
* Create storyboards
* Design the user interface and user experience
* Prototype creation
* Apply visual design (graphic design)
Development Phase
The development phase is where the developers
create and assemble the content assets that were
created in the design phase. Programmers work to
develop and/or integrate technologies. Testers
perform debugging procedures. The project is
reviewed and revised according to any feedback
given.
Implementation Phase
During the implementation phase, a procedure for training the
facilitators and the learners is developed. The facilitators'
training should cover the course curriculum, learning
outcomes, method of delivery, and testing procedures.
Preparation of the learners include training them on new tools
(software or hardware), student registration.
This is also the phase where the project manager ensures that
the books, hands on equipment, tools, CD-ROMs and software
are in place, and that the learning application or Web site is
functional.
Analysis Phase
In the analysis phase, instructional problem is clarified, the
instructional goals and objectives are established and the
learning environment and learner's existing knowledge and

Evaluation Phase
The evaluation phase consists of two parts:
formative and summative. Formative evaluation
is present in each stage of the ADDIE process.
Summative evaluation consists of tests
designed for domain specific criterion-related
referenced items and providing opportunities
for feedback from the users.
