1 Tunnel Construction Methods
According to international and domestic
tunneling technology status, there are several
different methods of construction.

From the actual situation, mine tunneling

method is still the main method of
construction in a very long term.

Additionally, from the current passenger

dedicated line, tunnel design is using NATM
principle, and the carryout process are drilling
and blasting excavation pulsing Shotcrete
support.
1.1 open cut method

All the rock and soil

will be excavated out
in the tunnel portion,
then that is to
construct the body
hole ,portal and then
to backfill
1.2 cover-excavation method

When the underground

construction needs to
cross the roads, buildings
and other obstructions,
tunnel excavation must dig
from the ground down to a
certain depth, and then
make the top closed, the
rest of the lower part of
the project should be
carried out under a closed
roof construction
1.3 Shield Method
Shield tunneling method is the
construction of a fully mechanized
construction methods .It propels the
shield machine forward in the
ground , through the shield shell and
tube sheet to support the
surrounding rock to prevent the
collapse of the tunnel.
minewhie it excavate the front side
soil with cutting means and remove
the soil outside of the cave by
mechanical, pressurized by the jack
at the rear and jacking and
assembling precast concrete
segments to form a mechanized
construction method of tunnel
construction
1.4 immersed tube method
An immersed tube is a kind of
underwater tunnel composed of
segments, constructed elsewhere and
floated to the tunnel site to be sunk
into water and then linked together.
They are commonly used for road and
rail crossings of rivers, estuaries and
sea channels.
Immersed tubes are often used in
conjunction with other forms of tunnel
at their end, such as a cut and cover or
bored tunnel, which is usually
necessary to continue the tunnel from
near the water's edge to the entrance
(portal) at the land surface.
1.5 TBM(tunnel boring machinemethod

TBM (tunnel boring

machine) method, is
with a special cutting
equipment to
squeeze broken rock
and cut it out, then,
by using the
transport equipment
which can transport
out of the gravels
1.6 mine tunneling method

Using drilling and blasting

method to excavate the
tunnel section ,then to
build the tunnel and
underground engineering

2.1 Influence of tunnel construction

Tunnel excavation can

affect the formation of
the original stress
distribution, and destroy
the balance of earth,
causing deformation of
the earths surface and
rock mass , especially
when the tunnel is
buried shallower
