INTEGRATIVE PROCESSING MODEL
EXAMPLE
CLIENT THAT DOES NOT WANT TO STOP SMOKING, BUT CAN HARDLY BREATHE
Gather Data- Collected data regarding clients physical health, reoccurring smoking
sessions every 10 mins, hospital runs, shortness of breathe, panhandling
Reflecting- I believe my behavior is worsening the situation. Im providing the gun. If it
were my mom I would NOT ENABLE HER. My grandmother died of cancer due to
smoking. Will she die on my shift?
Theory and Knowledge- Discussed treatment, and counseling. Pamphlets of what's to
come if she does not stop.
Dissonance- We continuously argued, I refused to give cigarettes (Theory in practice) I
know what I am suppose to do, and I DO IT
Articulate Learning- The lesson I have taken from this experience is Stick to your gut
feeling if it does not sit well with you regardless of rules/policies dont go against it.
Develop Plan- refer client to counseling, and nicotine patch. Start the client off with
other distractions like knitting. I myself will continue to proceed with causation if this
situation ever arises again.
