* Fun Fact: At U.P, one of his mentors was Guillermo Tolentino, also
a national artist, who created the Oblation at the university
entrance . Tolentino later relegated to him the task of replicating
the sculpture for the Campus of U.P. Los Banos.
Uses both academic representation and modern
abstract.
Used hard wood (molave, acacia, langka wood, ipil,
kamagong, palm wood and bamboo), adobe, metal,
stainless steel, cement, marble, bronze, iron, alabaster,
coral and brass.
Among the early innovations Abueva introduced in 1951
was what he referred to as "buoyant sculpture" --
sculpture meant to be appreciated from the surface of a
placid pool.
He used to teach at Industrial Design department of De
La Salle College of St. Benilde School of Arts and Design
before his stroke.

Kaganapan, Kaganapan is one
1953 of Napoleon Abueva's
work of art. Sculpted out
of marble in 1952 when
Abueva was still a young
student at the University
of the Philippines, this
sculpture won the grand
prize in the Arts
Association of the
Philippines' annual
competition. With a
dimension of 91.44 cms.,
Kaganapan literally
interprets the female

a fulfillment to women. It

The nine muses

arts—
architecture,

and computer arts
This sculpture shows Jesus Christ during his
transfiguration, the transfiguration is when
Jesus Christ ascended to heaven from earth.
This sculpture is much like the “UP
Oblation” of Guillermo Tolentino because it
has both horizontal and vertical
lines symmetry, because of that the sculpture
looks solid and stable. The sculpture has a
dull color for it is colored with a light gray.
The sculpture is standing upright facing the
sky, This symbolizes the ascension of Jesus
Christ to heaven. It is placed at the entrance
of Eternal Gardens Memorial Park, located
at St. Joseph, Quezon City. I believa that the
reason why the sculpture is places there is
because it is a cemetery, it is a place where
the dead are buried and their souls ascend to
heaven like Jesus Christ in his transfiguration
