*Grammatical particles –
-indicate the function of the
words that
precede them in a sentence

wa -- main topic particle


ka -- interrogative particle
no -- particle
mo -- particle
ga -- object particle
ka – interrogative particle – use
the end of a sentence to indicate
that it is a question
Examples Sentences
Genki desu ka
How are you?
Wakarimasu ka
Do you understand?
Eigo ga hanasemasu ka
Can you speak english?
What do you like?
Nani ga suki desu ka
Are you a doctor?
Anata wa isha desu ka
Are you Anna ?
Anata wa anna san desu ka
What is your name?
Anata no namae wa nan desu ka
What does this mean?
Kore wa douiu imi desu ka
*Wa –main topic particle
Indicates the main subject
of the sentence.

Examples:
I am anna
Watashi wa Anna desu
I am a student
Watashi wa gakusei desu

Are you a doctor?
Anata wa isha desu ka
Yes, I am a doctor
Hai,watshi wa isha desu
Are you Akane ?
Anata wa akane san desu ka
I can’t speak japanese
Watashi wa nihongo ga
hanasemasen

to indicate a relationship
Possesive
- indicates relation of belonging or ownership

Ex:

Anata no namae wa nan desu ka


What’s your name?
*Mo - it is used instead of wa to
indicate that the subject also meets
that condition.
Ex:
Aiko is a student too
Aikosan mo gakusei desu
*Ga – object particle
Indicate the object on which the verb action is
applied
Ex:
Nani ga suki desu ka
What do you like?
Watashi wa nihongo ga hanasemasen
I can’t speak japanese
Watashi wa sukoshi nihongo ga hanasemasu
I can speak a little japanese
Anata wa neko ga suki desu ka
Do you like cats?
