Leaving Cert Applied

Course Structure
 The leaving cert applied is a two year
leaving cert programme
 Each year is made up of two half year
sessions
 There are four sessions in total

Tourism

Communications

 Information and

Assessment
 The course is made up of modules
 Key assignments must be completed at
the end of each module
 Credits are awarded as key assignments
are completed
 90% attendance is required for credits
to be awarded
1. Satisfactory Completion of Modules / Key
Assignments (Maximum 62 credits)
2. Performance of Student Tasks (Maximum
10 credits per task - 7 Tasks in total =
70 credits)
3. Performance in the
Terminal Examinations. (Maximum 68
credits)
Assessment
This certificate will be awarded at
three levels:
Certificate Levels

Award Result Credits

Pass 60-69 % (120 – 139 credits)

Merit 70-84 % (140 – 169 credits)

Distinction 85-100 % (170 – 200 credits)


Work Experience
 Each student will
complete four work
placements over two
years
 Students will
complete 10 days of
work experience in
each placement
Orals
 Students will sit an
oral exam in Irish,
French and English.
 Students will also sit
an interview for six
of the seven tasks
Finally
 Students are advised to discuss their
career options with the guidance
counsellor before choosing to do the
leaving cert applied course
 Most students opt for an
apprenticeship, go straight into the
world of work or choose a plc course
after completing leaving cert applied.
