Now we will look at the mechanisms that operate in a 4WD system.

Based on inputs, the 4WD ECU magnetizes the EMC coil and pulls the pilot clutch. The pilot cam and the main cam move

away from the ball between them, pushing the main clutch and the pilot clutch outward. This transfers the power from the
transmission to the wheels, and the vehicle switches to the four wheel drive mode.
At this point, the multi-plate clutch activity changes based on the magnetization of the EMC and the power distribution ratio
between the front and rear wheels changes from 100:0 to 50:50.

1. The oil is permanently sealed within the housing. It

is impossible to supplement
or change the oil.

2. The steering angle sensor monitors the data sent

from the wheel speed sensors on all four wheels
and calculates the turning radius of the vehicle.

3. If the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h,
what we've then the system automatically deactivates 4WD
LOCK mode
learned today. to protect the system and improve driving
performance. The system switches to AUTO mode
when the speed of the vehicle exceeds 40 km/h.

4. No indicator lamps turn on in AUTO Mode.

1. W hich of the following is NOT an input element in a 4W D system?

① The throttle position sensor

② The wheel speed sensor
③ The brake signal
④ The steering angle sensor

Check Answer

Correct answer: ④
Explanation: The 4WD system does not use signals from the steering angle
sensor. Instead, it monitors the data from the wheel speed sensors on all four
wheels and calculates the turning radius based on this data.

3. W hich of the following statements about the JTECK 4W D system is incorrect?

① The power transfer unit and rear differential use different types of oil.
② The multi-plate clutch activity changes depending on the magnetization of the EMC.
③ Under normal conditions, most of the driving power is transferred to the front wheels.
④ When the vehicle is turning, the amount of power corresponding to the turn radius
and vehicle speed is distributed to the rear wheels.

Check Answer

Correct answer: ①
Explanation: Both the power transfer unit and rear differential use SAE 75W-90,
which is a hypoid gear oil.
