Introduction
The container, as the main tool for maritime
transport, has presented in recent years an
unstoppable growth and, therefore, for the
improvement of management have been created
control systems, including container coding.
Identification of
containers
 It is done through a combination of 11-digit
alphanumeric according to ISO 6346 and ISO 2716.
 BIC (International Office for Containers and
Intermodal Transport), which assigns a code for each
operating company.
The types of
containers
 The types of containers can be 4: for general
cargo, for special purposes, thermal and
specific cargo.
What data includes the
code of each container?
According to the international standard ISO 2716 and
ISO 634, the container code consists of a figure of 11
digits (alphanumeric system). The data that the code
must include are the following:
 The owner's code.
 The serial number.
 The self-control digit.
 Country codes of origin.
 Dimension codes.
 the weight of the container.
 The payload.
 The internal volume.
The ISO 6346 standard
Provides a general application system for the
identification of cargo containers. Specifies coding
system for data on container size and type.
 country code:
origin of the container (country of origin) and is
constituted by the abbreviation of two or three letters
of the Latin alphabet

 Container characteristics code:

This Code is made up of 4 figures, the first 2 indicate the
dimensions of the container (long and high) the second
two the type of container and its characteristics
 Risk identification codes fixed in intermodal
containers:
Known as the "RISK NUMBERS" known as the kemler
code, it can be found in the upper half of an orange
panel.

 The digits indicate the following risks:

 Emission of gases by chemical reaction
 inflammation of liquids
 oxidizing effect
 toxicity or risk of infection
 radioactivity
 corrocity
 Hazardous substances
Conclution
With all these data it is possible to obtain the
necessary information for the correct transport of
the containers, rigor information for all transport
and logistics. In addition, containers often carry
inscription marks on the back and can carry
dangerous merchandise.
