Metro E
Metro Ethernet is one of Ethernet
technology that can be used with
various features such as on
general Ethernet.

Or simply this is a metro-scale of

data communication network

Device FTTH
FTTH devices are divided into 2 types

• AON(Active Optical Network)

• PON(Pasive Optical Network)

AON(Active Optik Network)

AON (Active Optical Network) is a FTTH device that works when it get
power supply, AON Technology uses Active Splitting Equipment (ASE).
ASE on AON serves to distribute information from and to OLT, of one or
more ONUs, with capacity as multiplexers or demultiplexers as well as
intermediate regenerators, so the splitters on AON are active .
AON devices:
• OLT Optical Line Termination
• ONT Optical Network Terminal
PON(Pasive Optik Network)

PON (Passive Optical Network) is a fiber optic-based point-

tomultipoint network that has optical splitter element that
serves as a data distributor for several purposes. There is no
power supply on the device

PON devices:
• Optical Distribution Frame (ODF)
• Optical Distribution Cabinet (ODC)
• Optical Distribution Point (ODP)
• Optik Termination Premises (OTP)
OLT

• (OLT) Optical Line Termination is a device

that serves as the end-point of the passive
optical network service. This device has
two main functions, among others :

1. Convert between electrical signals used

by service providers and optical signals
used by passive optical networks.

2. Coordinate multiplexing on other

devices at the end of the network, or so-
called Optical Network Terminal (ONT)

ODF
Optical Distribution Frame
(ODF) is a device where early
termination of fiber optic cable.
Which functions as:
• Place Spliter to distribute Picture 8.1. ODF on Stack
Fiber Optics to ODC to serve
multiple areas.
• The transition from an
outdoor cable to an indoor
cable and vice versa.
• Frame for measure and
monitor Fiber Optic Network. Picture 8.2. Server ODF

ODC
Optical Distribution Cabinet (ODC);
[SEGMENT A] is a Passive Optical Network
(PON) device as a cross connect customer
channel installed outside the central, can be
in the field (outdoor) or indoors (indoor)
almost sma with RK on PSTN. ODC has the Picture 9.1. ODC on a
following functions : pole/wall
• As the end point of the feeder cable and
the base of the distribution cable.
• As cable distribution points from large
capacity (feeder) to smaller-capacity cable
(distribution),
• As splitter optical signal information
• Place of connection.

ODP
Optical Distribution Point (ODP)
[SEGMENT B] is the final
termination of the distribution
cable and the initial termination

of drop cable, which functions: wall
• As an optical droppin cable
termination point toward the
customer.
• As distribution point of the
distribution cable into
multiple optical drop channel
by using splitter. Picture 10.1. ODP on a pole

OTP

Optical Termination Premises, a

pasive device installed in a
customer's home, or we can call
it a Roset Optic. Functions of
OTP as follows; Picture 11.1. OTP

• Termination point or ending

point of optical dropp at the
customer's side.
• Place for optical dropp cable
connection with optical
Indooor cable (patchcord)

ONT
Optical Network Terminal
(ONT) is a customer-side
device that provides both data,
voice, and video interfaces.
ONT's main function is to
receive traffic in optical format
and convert it into desired Picture 12.1. ONT front view
services, such as data, voice,
and video.
