REALITY CHECK

We think of the effective teachers we had

over the years with a sense of recognition, but
those who have touched our humanity we
remember with a deep sense of gratitude.
We think too much about effective methods
of teaching and not enough about effective
methods of learning.
REALITY CHECK ...
 Do you remember your pupils in school that never
seemed to complete class assignments or do their
homework?
 Do you remember pupils who did poorly in most of
their classes and rarely participated in extracurricular
activities?
 How much attention did you pay to those pupils?
Who are at risk?
Labels of Students Least Likely To Succeed

• Struggling Students-with difficulties

• Reluctant Students-showing doubts/unwilling
• Disadvantaged Students-unfavorable, inferior
• Alienated Students-feeling withdrawn or separated
• Resistant Students-opposing
• Educationally Deprived

LEARNING STYLE

Children learn in different ways. Everyone has a

preferred style and it is possible to test children
to determine their preferences. Knowledge of
different learning style is key to successful
teachers.
(Multiple Intelligence, Preferences, teaching by
the heart)
ABSTRACT/PURPOSE
 Evaluate traditional methods of teaching as well
as multimedia teaching methods
 Teaching must include two major components
sending and receiving information
 Any communication methods that serve this
purpose without destroying the objective could
be considered as innovative methods of teaching.
 Benefits of innovative methods
Improve Learning process
Strengthen governance
ANALYSIS OF TRADITIONAL METHOD OF
TEACHING
 Pre-technology education context,
the teacher is the sender or the
source.
 The educational material is the
information or message.
 The student is the receiver of the
information.
 The delivery medium
 chalk-and- talk” method
 overhead projector (OHP)
transparencies.
 In such a lecture students assume
a purely passive role and their
concentration fades off after 15-
20 minutes.
LIMITATIONS
 Teaching in classroom using chalk and talk is “one
way flow” of information
 Teachers often continuously talk for an hour
without knowing students response and feedback.
 The material presented is only based on lecturer
notes and textbooks.
 There is insufficient interaction with students in
classroom.
 More emphasis has been given on theory without
any practical and real life time situations.
 Learning from memorization but not understanding.
INNOVATIVE METHODS OF TEACHING

FIELD TRIP
 Pupils
get out of the classroom
and experience something new.
 Team building
 Teachers get to go on more
detail while at the location, to
directly point out certains
points she may not have been
able to make with words alone
LEARNING GAMES
 Engaged while learning
 Learn like social skills
 Develop problem solving skills
 Perfect way to chanellize energy of
hyperactive skills
 Ex. Bingo, Family Feud,Who wants to be A
Millionaire, 4 PICS, Charades, Crosswords,

TEACHING WITH SENSE OF HUMOUR
 Laughter is a natural, universal phenomenon,
with beneficial effects, both physical and
psychological.
 Everyone loves a teacher with an infectious
sense of humor.
 Cordial relationship.
 Ability to relax people and reduce tension.
 Advertising strategy.
 Cartoon
 When there is a willingness to change, there is hope
for progress in any field.
 Students enjoys humor in forms of funny anecdotes
Z TO A APPROACH
This approach attempts to explain the
application part of a particular
concept first.

Strengths
 Makes a particular concept clear
 Students develop interest to know
exactly the concept.
 Creates long lasting
memory/correlation of a concept.

Weaknesses
 Take quite long time for a teacher to
introduce a concept
 Initial difficulty in understanding a
particular concept will be
encountered.
LEANING TOWER OF PISA EXPERIMENT – EXAMPLE TO Z –
A APPROACH

Make a hypothesis, then

experiment. Two different objects
fall at the same rate. This is
because the rate of acceleration of
an object in a field of force
(gravity) is independent of the
object's mass ( if we ignore the air
resistance).
MNEMONICS - WORDS- WORDS –WORDS APPROACH

 Concept approach
 Associated meaning
 Increase word power
 Tool to help remember facts or large information
 EXAMPLES: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally (PEMDAS)
 King Philip Cuts Open Five Green Snakes- Order of Taxonomy
 My Very Excited Mother Just Served Nachos (Order of Planets)
 Acronym Mnemonics= ROYGBIV, FANBOYS-coordinating
conjunctions=For,and,not,but,or,yet,so
ROLE PLAYING AND SCENARIO ANALYSIS

Innovation = Creativity + Commercialization
Innovation - What is it?
Innovation is the introduction of new ideas,
goods, services, and practices which are
intended to be useful (though a number of
unsuccessful innovations can be found
throughout history). The main driver for
innovation is often the courage and energy to
better the world. An essential element for
innovation is its application in a commercially
successful way. Innovation has punctuated
and changed human history (consider the
development of electricity, steam engines,
motor vehicles, et al).

Portrait of a Creative Person
“Creative people pay attention to
their world, see things differently,
challenge assumptions, take risks,
are not afraid to fail, and strive to
generate multiple solutions to
problems. They are passionate
about creativity and seek
opportunities to innovate.”
Everyday Creativity: Principles
for Innovative Design. Dr. Larry
G. Richards
Six Tips To Help You Enhance Your Creativity
1. Open Your Mind - Have one new experience every day; no matter
how small. New experiences stimulate the brain and help you make
new and original connections; critical for boosting breakthroughs.
2. Diversify - Involve others in your problem-solving efforts who bring a
different perspective or cultural experience than yours.
3. Mental Floss – Relax; Stress, exhaustion, boredom and even pain
can block our pathways to creativity.
4. Stop Looking For the Right Answer - Look for many right answers.
5. Discover Your Creative Rhythm - Start paying attention to when you
get your best ideas.
6. Health Makes Wealth - Regular exercise not only benefits your body,
it boosts brain performance as well.

•“We know that people do their most creative
work when they love doing what they’re
doing. There’s no substitute for intrinsic
motivation, that is, motivation that comes
from within. Although such motivation
doesn’t guarantee creativity, dislike or lack of
interest in work practically guarantees non-
creativity.”

PARTS OF INNOVATIVE PROJECT
1.PROJECT TITLE: It can be an acronym
related to the formulated title or it is a word
that depicts the whole description of the
innovation project.
2. PROPONENT: The teacher/school head who
will conduct the innovative project.
3.IMPLEMENTER: The school or the place
where the innovation will be conducted.
4. TARGET CLIENTELES: The group of
learners/individuals who will be benefite in the
implementation of the innovation.
5.RATIONALE: The reason why there is a need to
conduct the innovation. It should be based on the
pre - requisite concept prior on the conduct of
the implementation.
6.OBJECTIVES: Specific statement of what the
proponent needs to answer. It is the guiding
statement how the innovative project will be
conducted.
7. PROJECT DESCRIPTION and COMPONENTS:
This is the show window of the innovation. This
is part where the whole innovation speaks how
it will work. It describes the whole dscription
and components of the innovation.
8. FUNDING REQUIREMENT/SCHEME: Financial
requirement needed in the implementation of
the innovation.
8. SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES: The following
activities should be followed in the

TEACHER THE GREATEST INNOVATOR
Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.
Anyone who keeps learning stays young.

To teach is to learn twice

Teachers should guide without dictating, and participate without

dominating

The critical factor is not class size but rather the nature of the
teaching as it affects learning.

LEARNING NEVER ENDS
