INTRODUCTION TO THE HXP-3

HIGHWAY CROSSING PREDICTOR

1
DETECTING A TRAIN

2
When the requested warning time equals the warning time, the unit is
calculating it will start the crossing

3
HXP-3

• The HXP is capable of providing constant

warning times for varying train speeds
• They are used in high motorist areas on
tracks where the train speeds will vary

14
The HXP is broken into two main parts
The motion detection section
And the island section

Motion detector Island

TRM RSI
RYD
CPU

The motion detection section AND THE ISLAND

includes: INCLUDES: 15
The TRM(TRANSMITTER RECEIVER MODULE) is
responsible for transmitting and receiving the 0 -1000Hz
detecting frequency

It also amplifies and filters that signal before it is sent to the

rail.

This signal level is called the RX level

16
The RYD (RELAY DRIVE MODULE) is responsible for supplying 12
volts to the MDR terminals which in turn drive the XR

It does this only after the computer says it it safe to do so.

The RYD also filters the B12 and N12 coming into the box and converts
it to 5 VDC for the other modules

17
The CPU(CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT) is the caretaker of the entire
system, It watches for signal level changes(trains)

It also looks for any entries you might make to the keypad

As well as interpreting the changes that occur on the terminal posts

The CPU processes all IO for the HXP

18
The RSI(RANDOM SIGNATURE ISLAND) makes up the entire island
section and is responsible for generating, amplifying, transmitting and
receiving the island frequency to and from the rails

It does this on the same set of leads that the TRM uses

The island is responsible for detecting trains on the road crossing

19
SUPPLEMENTAL MODULES

The AXD (AUXILIARY DRIVE)

module is needed when this unit will be
controlling adjacent crossings with
AX1,2,or 3, or if this unit will be
providing a traffic interconnection

These can be set up using the

programming features of the HXP

20
SUPPLEMENTAL MODULES

The TLM (TRANSFER LOGIC

MODULE is found in normal/standby
units.

It monitor both the normal and standby

modules for failures

If a failure occurs, the module transfers

power and connections to the other set
of modules
21
The HXP-3 is programmable
using the IDK
(INFORMATION DISPLAY
AND KEYPAD)

Almost all of the setup is done

TYPICAL INSTALLATION
The HXP is applied to the rails The transmitter leads must be
over four wires R1,T1,R2 and on the short or bungalow side

TYPICAL INSTALLATION
The HXP is a constant current This is how we can detect a
device. When the train is change in voltage or RX

There is the same current coming
out of the box as when no train is
present.

INTRODUCTION TO THE HCA-1
HIGHWAY CROSSING ANALYZER

18
HCA-1

- The HCA-1 is a non-vital, general purpose event recorder

- It is capable of monitoring 14 digital inputs and 4 analog inputs
- It also includes 7 programmable outputs to drive relays or light
a lamp

The HCA-1 can be broken into three areas:

CPU Module
Input/Output Module
Chassis

19
The CPU houses the Executive and Site

20
The CPU also houses the indicator L.E.D.’s

When lit, indicates an energized or active status

Can indicate when an alarm is occurring and

21
The CPU also houses the Modem connection port, modem power
receptacle and printer/terminal port

22
The I/O module is responsible for sensing status changes
on all 14 digital inputs (0 - 3VDC “off”
6 - 36 VDC “on”)

It also senses the four analog inputs

Outputs are programmable and can conduct up to
