According to USDA,” organic products are
referred as those products produced
without toxic & persistent pesticides&
fertilizers, genetically modified
organisms(GMOs),antibiotics,irradiation,
sewage sludge or added hormones.
 CERTIFICATION IN INDIA
oThe Ministry of Commerce launched
NPOP(National programme for organic production )
in March 2000,designed to establish national
standards for organic products, which could then be
sold under the logo” India Organic”.

oFor the proper implementation of NAPP(National

Accreditation Policy and Programme) has been
formulated with Accreditation Regulations
announced in May 2001.
PRODUCTION-
Production means transformation of inputs into output.
India produced around 1.35 million tones (2015-16) of
certified organic products which includes all varieties of
food products namely Sugarcane, Oil Seeds, Cereals &
Millets, Cotton, Pulses, Medicinal Plants, Tea, Fruits,
Spices, Dry Fruits, Vegetables, Coffee etc. . The
production is not limited to the edible sector but also
produces organic cotton fiber, functional food products
etc.

Among all the states, Madhya Pradesh has covered

largest area under organic certification followed by
Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
 MARKET-

 INDUSTRIAL GROWTH
A growth industry is the sector of the economy

consumer demand for new products or services
that firms within the industry are beginning
to offer.
The organic food industry has
experienced astonishing growth in the
past few years.
AGRICULTURAL GROWTH
As per the available statistics, India’s
rank in terms of World’s Organic
Agricultural land was 15 as per 2013
data .
In 2014-15 there is increase in
quality seeds grew substantially for
pulses (97%),followed by cerels(64%)
and fibres (47%).
 TAXES
A compulsory contribution to state
revenue, levied by the government on
workers' income and business profits,
or added to the cost of some goods,
services, and transactions.

the goods and services. In effect, GST provides revenue

5% ON textile articles, sets, worn clothing
and worn textile articles and rags, of sale
value exceeding Rs. 1000 per piece,Then
12% GST is Applicable.
28% on Leguminous Vegetables Shelled
and Other Leguminous Vegetables.

EARNINGS FROM EXPORTS:-
Europe has been a major market for organic foods
exports from India.
The exports of organic food were estimated at
approximately Rs.1328.61 crores in value terms during
the year 2013-14.
Organic juice,coffee,rice,meat,fruits,milk etc.are
organic products which got exported from India.
