 Petroleum Industry is considered to be the back
bone of an economy because this is the main source
of energy till date. Any economy around the world
would fail to proceed a single step in the absence of
Petroleum Industry.

 The petroleum industry involves the refining of

crude petroleum and the processing of natural gas
into a multitude of products ,as well as the
distribution & marketing of petroleum derived
products.

 Petroleum Industry always need to perform

exploration research all over the world for finding
more petroleum sites which also become instrumental
in the setting up Petroleum Industry

 EFFECTIVENESS
OF TRAINING AND
DEVELOPMENT IN IOCL GUWAHATI..
 To determine whether the employees of IOCL are
participative in training, programs were benefited in
real sense i.e. knowledge, efficiency, skills(in their
respective areas) have been achieved/improved.

 To compare the white collar and the blue collar

employees perception about the training program..

 To identify and analyze the areas for further

development.

 To determine whether there is any decrease in

accidents and near misses in Guwahati Refinery due
to the training program.

 To determine whether the employees are satisfied

with the training program.

 More than half of the respondents are satisfied with the
training program. However most felt there is scope for
improvement.

 Post training de-briefing for most of the employees with

their managers is not done. This is a very important part
of the training process to evaluate the training program.

 After participating in a particular/ various training

programs, most of the participants felt that they only
achieved improvement in respect of ideas, knowledge,
skilled, efficiency and productivity to some extent.
However, majority of their managers believed that the
improvement was considerable. This indicates a
difference in the participants’ and the managers’
understanding about the same.

 Half of the participants felt that improvement in work

culture has been achieved to some extent only through
the training program.
 Training programs could improve considerably to some
extent the confidence level of the participants towards
performing their job/ task and dealing with their
supervisors/colleagues and subordinates. The managers
felt similarly

 Almost all the methods, more or less were effectively

employed for imparting training programs.

 Training programs are arranged casually.

 At sense of practice of performance tryout and follow

up in almost all cases.

 Overall training programs imparted are less satisfactory

in developing the personnel of guwahati refinery.
