What is a digital pen..??

 A digital pen is a battery-operated writing instrument .

 The digital pen contains an infrared camera, a processor,
memory, a datalink .
 The digital pen requires a special pre-printed paper .
 The dot pattern, enables the digital Pen to capture the
exact positions of the Pen tip as it moves on the page .
Evolution
 In 1997 Smart Quill was Invented
by Lyndsay Williams.

 In 1998 the C Technologies

launches C-pen in Sweden.
 In 2002 Sony Ericsson launches
a digital pen together with
Vodafone, based on Anoto’s
technology.

 In 2003 Nokia releases its first

Digital pen Nokia SU-1B.
 In 2005 ,Leapfrog FLY
pentop was launched.

 The 2006, Logitech

launches the their digital
writing system called io2
digital pen.
 In 2007, Nokia launches
Nokia SU-27W.

 In 2008, Pulse
Smartpen was launched
by Livescribe.

DESCRIPTION
How Digital Pens work..??
The Pen

A digital pen looks and

feels like using its normal
ballpoint counterparts.
Using a digital pen we can
capture, store and then
securely send the
handwriting.
How digital pens convert and transfer
ink to digital data..??

 When writing ,digital snapshots of the pattern

on the paper are automatically taken
 Every snapshot contains enough data to
determine the exact position of the pen .
 All this data is then retained in the pen’s
memory as a series of coordinates.
 The pen can store up to 50 full A4/Letter
size pages of handwritten data.
How the paper works..??
The Paper :
Handwritten information no longer
locked in a form
 To make the paper digitally legible
a patent-protected dot pattern from
Anoto is added before printout.

The Pattern :
 The digital paper is printed with a
pattern of dots based on a six by
six matrix.
 The Anoto pattern is almost invisible to the
naked eye and can be read by a digital
pen.

 The pattern indicates the exact positions

of the digital pen.

 The pattern on each paper has a unique

identity so that each page can be kept
separate from another.
How to Transfer data from pen
..??
Send data for digital processing
The digital pen user transfers data after it has
been temporarily stored in the pen, either :

 Wireless
 Via a USB port

 Sent data is in proprietary Anoto PGC format.
