instructions, critically to check the facts of a commercial,
penetratingly to hear a single voice in a crowd, or with
emphaty to encourage a good friend. Your responses-facial
expressions, muscular tension, eye contact and so on-clearly
indicate your listening style and set the stage for interaction
to continue (or perhaps discontinue). Real listening is
difficult to fake.
