PRESENT SYSTEM
A manual MVWS system has been envisaged for floating roof type
Naphtha Storage tank 1, 2, and 3. The system is operated through 3 no’s of
manually operated MVWS pumps with rated capacity of 550m3 /Hr.

The detection of fire is by a LHS cable which is provided through out the
tanks. An interface unit is also used with system to interface signals from field to
Cerebrus fire panel , located at control room.

In case of fire, local fire station informs the exact location of area,
specific tank on fire. With this the manual MVWS system is actuated across the
tanks, by opening the isolation valves provided on the hydrant header tapings.

After ensuring the fire is completely extinguished, we have to close the

isolation valves and shut off all the pumps which have been started manually.

3
NEW PROPOSED SCHEME

The new modification proposes the auto operation of

the Foam & MVWS system with the detection of fire.

With the detection of the fire, alarm will generate in

the fire panel indicating the exact location of fire. The

Cerebrus Fire panel will generate a command to open the

valves in the foam line & water spray lines of respective tank.

This will quench the fire and provide water blanketing

to adjacent tanks simultaneously.

4
NEW PROPOSED SCHEME

On detection of fire with LHS cable, The foam maker inlet

valve, respective tank’s foam line valve & water spray valves will

open immediately for quenching fire. After 10 / 15 second delay,

water spray valves of adjacent tanks will open for cooling the

tanks and providing water blanketing.

The opening of the valve is reduces the pressure in the line.

The auto starting of the pump can be made possible by the

pressure switches provided with the pumps. On the fall of the

discharge header pressure, pressure switch will initiate the

operation of alternative pump.

5
NEW PROPOSED SCHEME

For the auto operation of the foam & water spray system 6 no of
pneumatic operated valves in water spray line, 4 no of valves in foam
spry line, one valve at inlet water line of foam maker are required

For auto operation of water pumps, new pressure switches (3 No)

to be installed in the spray water header line with different settings.
Auto/ manual selector should be added in raw/ Fire water control
panel.

One inch pressurization / interconnection line to be provided

between fire hydrant line & spray line.
