What is empowerment? Empowerment is a process by which we increase the capacity of an individual or group in order to enable them to make choices and for them to transform their choices into the desired actions. Employee empowerment is one of the most important concepts in total quality management. Empowerment is the key to motivation and productivity which will result in better quality. Also very important is that by empowering your employees you are giving management more time to spend engaged in visioning, nurturing, broad-based thinking and focusing on quality. By empowering your staff you are creating employees who are friendly, happy, and can cater to the customer's needs more easily which can affect the customer's perception of service quality in a positive way.

WHAT IS PARTICIPATION?
Employee participation is the involvement of employees in organisations by means of communication. Employee participation allows employees to have some input in the decision making process within business's.

Working in teams - This would give employees an opportunity to discuss in teams the best course of action, which may involve making decisions agreed upon the group e.g. choosing a certain supply of goods. Carry out staff opinion surveys - These can be given to employees within the company, allowing employees to give their views and opinions on the business. The results of the survey may determine how the business is run.
