INTRODUCTION

Hacker is a term that has been used to mean a variety of different things in computing. Depending on the context, the term could refer to a person in any one of several distinct (but not completely disjoint) communities and subcultures. A community of enthusiast computer programmers and systems designers, originated in the 1960s around the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT's) Tech Model Railroad Club (TMRC) and MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

 The

hobbyist home computing community, focusing on hardware in the late 1970s (e.g. the Homebrew Computer Club) and on software (computer games, software cracking, the damascene) in the 1980s/1990s. Currently, "hacker" is used in two main conflicting ways, one as someone who subverts computer security (referred to as the "pejorative" or "negative sense" here), and one as a member of a programming subculture or one who uses such a style of software or hardware development (referred to as the "positive sense" here).

 As

usage has spread more widely, the primary meaning of newer users conflicts with the original primary emphasis. In popular usage and in the media, computer intruders or criminals is the exclusive meaning today, with associated pejorative connotations. The mainstream media's current usage of the term may be traced back to the early 1980s.

 As

a result of this difference, the definition is the subject of heated controversy. The wider dominance of the pejorative connotation is resented by many who object to the term being taken from their cultural jargon and used negatively, including those who have historically preferred to self-identify as hackers. A possible middle ground position has been suggested, based on the observation that "hacking" describes a collection of skills which are used by hackers of both descriptions for differing reasons.

Who included in government website hacking cases

Based on the The Star News, a hacker group has threatened to attack the www.malaysia.gov.my website. The group, which calls itself Anonymous, said it will launch the attack at 7.30pm GMT on Wednesday (3.30am Thursday Malaysian time) and has named it Operation Malaysia. It posted the threat in a graphic on this website, http://i.imgur.com/PTFWh.png Besides that, Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Commission said that 51 websites in the .gov.my domain were attacked beginning late Wednesday, and that 41 of the sites suffered various levels of disruption.

Where and when hacker attack Malaysia government website

Some 50 Malaysian government websites were crippled on Wednesday night after a hacker attack by the Anonymous Activist group, renowned for its retaliation attacks on companies hindering the work of Wikileaks, local media sources said on Thursday. Malaysia is the latest target in a cyber-war waged by the activists, who gained prominence when they temporarily crippled the websites of MasterCard and PayPal that cut off financial services to WikiLeaks.

Why Do Hackers Attack Malaysia government website?

Malaysian government is ordering the ISPs in the country to block many file sharing websites including The Pirate Bay and Mega Upload. The decision to block the websites is taken by the Suruhanjaya Komunikasi and Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) the arm of the Malaysian government which supervises the telecom and multimedia industry in Malaysia. If your favorites file sharing sites seemed to be inaccessible for the past few days, its most probably blocked! The file sharing sites might have been listed under the recent blockage order by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Disadvantages of Hacking on Malaysia government website

This

hacking website make people impossible to publish information , procedures and other aspects of an organization's work, directly, we need to dissemination the information by human, this means an agency forces to dedicate more staff time to dissemination activities, allowing either for a increases in staff numbers, or for their employment elsewhere in the agency.

Implication

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said in a statement the attacks on websites with the .gov.my domain started shortly before midnight Wednesday and lasted several hours. Little damage was caused and these were denial of service attacks. Apparently most of the websites have already recovered. Malaysian police Chief Ismail Omar told Reuters no personal or financial data had so far been stolen but the authorities were trying to determine the extent of the attacks. Most government-related websites are (now) accessible to the public and have either not been affected by the service outages or have recovered from the attacks

CONCLUSION

Lets recap from previous few post that Malaysia government was indeed a target for Anonymous hacker group. Why the hacker targets Malaysia government? They were not happy over the censorship that Malaysia government has done. Probably you can read my previous post on the link of my first line to find out what I actually think. Although those sites were blocked, however there is a way to bypass the blocked websites.
