WHAT IS FACEBOOK???
Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc.[1] As of July 2011[update], Facebook has more than 800 million active users.[6] Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Facebook users must register before using the site. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists, e.g. "People From Work", or "Really Good Friends". The name of the service stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by university administrations in the United States to help students get to know each other. Facebook allows any users who declare themselves to be at least 13 years old to become registered users of the website.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.[7] The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged 13 and over. However, based on ConsumersReports.org on May 2011, there are 7.5 million children under 13 with accounts, violating the site's terms.[8] A January 2009 Compete.com study ranked Facebook as the most used social networking service by worldwide monthly active users, followed by MySpace.[9]Entertainment Weekly included the site on its end-of-thedecade "best-of" list, saying, "How on earth did we stalk our exes, remember our co-workers' birthdays, bug our friends, and play a rousing game of Scrabulous before Facebook?"[10]Quantcast estimates Facebook has 138.9 million monthly unique U.S. visitors in May 2011.

Facebook is a great opportunity for businesses to make their products known

Facebook is home to more than 400 million users around the world, and is growing everyday. This number of users will be the market of any advertisement posted in the website which is why businesses are taking advantage of this opportunity. Facebook lets you post anything on your wall

Another benefit of becoming a Facebook user is that you will be able to post almost anything on your wall. The wall of a particular user is a common ground for all your friends and yourself. This is a page in your profile which gives you the latest news and posts from your other friends including yourself. A lot of people are taking advantage of this page to post some information and updates on their personal lives. It can also be used to announce a reunion, and outing, event and the like. Through this wall, you can also tell your friends how you feel, and they are free to react with your wall post by commenting on it. Finally, not only can you post written content, but you can also put some videos, pictures and music on your wall.

Less Social Interaction

Maybe you have a lot of friends in Facebook. However, how often do you interact with them in the real world? Come on, you are human! Human are social creature. You will reduce your social skills, communication skills as well as verbal skills if you spend most of your time with the internet. Do not do that. Appreciate yourself

Bad for Health

Obesity would be one of many Facebook negative effects. Surely you will be fatter. You reduce your physical activity, only sitting in front of the monitor and snacking all the time definitely. By the end of the month, you have made yourself become less attractive in front of your opposite sex

CONCLUSION
This essay offers some things to contemplate when using Facebook, all of which can be summed up easily in a "Golden Rule." Don't say anything about someone else that you would not want said about yourself. And be gentle with yourself too! What might seem fun or spontaneous at 18, given caching technologies, might prove to be a liability to an on-going sense of your identity over the longer course of history. Have fun and make productive use of these new, exciting technologies, but remember that technology does not absolve one of responsibility. Behind every device, behind every new program, behind every technology is a law, a social norm, a business practice that warrants thoughtful consideration
